Assuming state power in 2001, the BNP-Jamaat coalition resorted to elimination of Awami League men by killing agents who must be brought to book.
This was revealed by Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel MP on Tuesday while addressing as the chief guest at a virtual programme marking the 18th martyrdom of BCL leader Mohim Uddin.
Cadres patronised by Hawa Bhaban, a place controlled by BNP leader and the then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman for interfering in the state affairs, were engaged in killing missions across the country, he said.
They murdered hundreds of leaders and workers of Chhatra League and Jubo League, two associate bodies of Awami League, he added.
As part of it, the cadres of Tarique Rahman killed Mohim Uddin alias Mohim, assistant library secretary of BCL’s central committee and president of students’ union of Muslim Education Society (M.E.S.) College in Chattogram. The masterminds and executors of the killing will have to face trial and exemplary punishment, he opined.
BCL paid tribute to Mohim by placing floral wreath at his grave near Gorib Ullah Shah Mazar in the port city Monday night.
Discussion on Mohim and special prayers for salvation of the departed soul were held in Royal Garden Community Center the following day.
Ex-BCL president of Chattogram MR Azim presided over the discussion which was moderated by former president of M.E.S College students’ union Abul Hossain.
Former BCL central chief Liakat Sikder, Chattogram Zila Parishad chairman ATM Pearul Islam, Boishakhi TV head of news Ashok Chowdhury, Chattogram City Corporation panel mayor and Mohim’s elder brother Giash Uddin, among others, spoke on the occasion.
