An additional chief metropolitan magistrate court in Dhaka on Tuesday issued arrest warrant against 33 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, including BNP joint secretary general Moazzem Hossain Alal and Juba Dal former president Saiful Islam Nirob, in a case lodged for allegedly vandalizing vehicles and traffic police box in Dhaka.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman passed the order as a couple of accused in the case including BNP joint secretary general Moazzem Hossain Alal and Mahila Dal president Afroza Abbas appeared before the court.
The 33 others including Nirob failed to appear before the court for the scheduled hearing, pleading for time through their lawyers instead.
Rejecting their time plea, the court issued arrest warrant against them.
According to the case documents, around 1,500 BNP leaders and activists allegedly armed with deadly weapons vandalized vehicles on February 8, 2018, as their chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was going to appear in court in a graft case. They threw brickbats on police indiscriminately and vandalized a traffic police box, injuring couple of policemen. Police filed the case with Ramna Police Station against 180 people, on that day.
