Couple among 3 killed in Gaibandha road accident

At least three people, including a couple, were killed in a road accident in Sakoya Bridge area under Palashbari upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased were identified as Shamim Miah, 30, son of Salam Miah of Durgapur village under Sadar upazila of the district and his wife Shimu Sarker, 24, daughter of Kalam Sarker at Panchbibi area of Joypurhat district and auto rickshaw driver Shakil Miah.

Deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Enamul Haque said the accident occurred on Gaibandha-Palashbari road around 7 am when a bus hit the CNG-run auto-rickshaw due to poor visibility caused by fog, leaving its three passengers dead on the spot and injured two others.

The auto-rickshaw was heading for Joypurhat. When it reached the area the bus hit the three-wheeler, he said.

The injured were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Inspector (investigation) of Palashbari thana Dibakor Adhikari said the bodies were sent to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
