Awami League advisory council member and Bhola-1 constituency lawmaker Tofail Ahmed has said the next general election will be held as per the constitution.

“There is no possibility of formation of caretaker government amending the constitution. The BNP’s movement to realise 10-point demands is unrealistic and baseless,” he said.

He was speaking at several meetings at several places in Kachiar Poranganj, Pakhar Matha area in Ilisha union under Sadar upazila in Bhola district on early Saturday afternoon.

At that time, he was accompanied by the party leaders and workers including Bhola District Awami League general secretary Mainul Hossain Biplob.

Tofail Ahmed said, “There will never be a caretaker government in Bangladesh. Elections will be held under the present government as per the constitution. BNP’s demand of restoration of caretaker government system is absurd.”

Tofail said after assuming power in 2001, BNP carried out inhuman torture on the Awami League leaders and workers and the people.

People still could not forget BNP’s torture happened at that period, he said, adding that mother and sister were brutally tortured and raped at Lalmohan in Bhola during the BNP government.

According to Tofail, the development that has taken place during the Awami League rule is unprecedented in the country’s history. The country has turned into a dignified nation in the global stage.

Later, Tofail Ahmed spoke at street rallies at Paranganj Biswa Road, Jongsan Bazar and Rajapur.

Zilla Parishad Chairman Abdul Momin Tulu, District unit of AL General Secretary Mainul Hossain Biplab and Sadar Upazila Parishad Vice-Chairman Md Yunus were present on the occasion.

It may be mentioned that Tofail Ahmed has arrived at his constituency in Bhola on a five-day visit. During his visit, he will witness the development activities in his areas, exchange opinions with the party leaders and activists, and hold roadside meetings.
