Bangladesh posted 188 runs on the board losing nine wickets in reduced 37 overs against England in the warm-up game ahead of the World Cup after opting to bat first at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday.
The revised target for England is 197 runs to win in 37 overs according to the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method.Earlier, Bangladesh fell under pressure losing two early wickets for just 26 runs in five overs. Tanzid Hasan Tamim (45) showed some promising shots at the beginning of the innings but could not carry on long enough.
Liton Das (5), Najmul Hossain Shanto (2), Mushfiqur Rahim (8), Mahmudullah Riyad (18) and Towhid Hridoy (5) failed to show their characters with the bat. At a time Bangladesh were on 153/5 after 30 overs relying on Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s bat. And then the rain arrived and kept the play stopped. The match resumed after a long time, with overs cutting off to 37 overs.
But there were not any other substantial contributions down the order as the English bowlers rattled out the lower order quite quickly. Bangladesh somehow managed 188 runs at the end with Miraz’s 74.
Reece Topley was the pick of the English bowlers with his three wickets. Adil Rashid and David Willey picked up two wickets each. Bangladesh won their first warm-up match against Sri Lanka on Friday (September 29) without sipper Shakib Al Hasan.
