2 outlets of CHT goods open in city

With a view to selling various types of goods, including handicrafts, foods and fruits produced in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), two sales and display centres have been inaugurated in the city’s Baily Road.

State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs  Kujendra Lal Tripura inaugurated the sales and display centres on Monday night.

Taskforce Chairman and Senior Secretary of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Sudatta Chakma, Additional  DIG of Tourist Police Bangladesh Bidhan Tripura, Foreign Ministry Official Rajib Tripura, Khagrachari Sangbadik Union President Prodeep Chowdhury, Personal Secretary to the State Minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Khagendra Tripura and UNDP’s IT Associate AA Mong, among others, attended the inaugural function.

“All kinds of clothes, chemical-free seasonal fruits produced in the hilly areas, foods and handicrafts items will be available at these sales and display centres”, said the state minister while inaugurating the outlets.

These sales and display centres will remain open to all.
This endeavor will help to establish a bond between the people of the hilly areas and the other communities across the country.
Traditional handicrafts items designed by the hilly people, organic foods and spices like turmeric, chili, papaya, puffed  rice, fried grain (khoi), dry mango, coconut oil, ghee, bamboo-made utensils, ethnic community’s clothes, Burmese lungi, traditional Marma clothes, bamboo flute,  cane-made basket, different types of vegetables, and sugar cane molasses will be available at the display and sales centres.
The display and sale centre, a sister  concern of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry, will be operated jointly by the three hill district councils. It will remain open from 8am to 8pm.
