Five passengers on a CNG-powered autorickshaw have died after their vehicle was hit by a covered van in Gazipur’s Kaliganj, reports bdnews24.com.
The accident occurred on the Tongi-Ghorashal Bypass Road near Mulgaon Madrasa around 10:45am on Saturday.
The dead have been identified as Rabeya Begum, 70, her son Mohammad Ali, 55, his son Aman Ullah, 5, Amal Kumar Karmakar, 39, and Nazmul Hossain, 35.
Four of the autorickshaw passengers died on the spot when their vehicle was rammed by a covered van belonging to the Pran-RFL Company, Fire Service personnel and locals said. Five-year-old Aman and the autorickshaw’s driver were rescued and rushed to the local Upazila health complex for treatment.
The doctor there declared the child dead, administered first aid to the driver and sent him to Dhaka in critical condition. His identity has yet to be confirmed.
“When the incident was reported, we went to the scene around 11pm and recovered the bodies of four people, including a woman,” said Mostafizur Rahman, a leader of the Kaliganj Fire Service. “A child was also declared dead after he was rushed to the hospital by locals.”
Rezina Afrin, a doctor at the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, said: “A boy named Aman Ullah was brought to the hospital dead around 11:30pm.”
“The driver of a CNG autorickshaw was brought to the hospital in critical condition. We administered first aid and referred him to Dhaka.”
