BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has reiterated his party’s commitment to implement the July Charter, expressing hope that the agreement will be signed soon.
Speaking to journalists on Friday afternoon after a courtesy visit to Darul Uloom Madrasa in Hathazari, Salahuddin said, “We have made a firm pledge to implement the July Charter. Most of the preparatory work is already complete, and we are hopeful that the official signing will take place soon.”
He made the remarks following a meeting with the madrasa’s principal, Sheikh Ahmed, and Director General Mufti Khalil Ahmed Qasemi.
During the briefing, Salahuddin also addressed the party’s response to the Consensus Commission’s 826 proposals, stating that BNP has observations on only 51 points and agrees with the rest. “We are aligned on the majority of the proposals. Our feedback is constructive and limited,” he said.

BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan, who accompanied Salahuddin during the visit, noted that national elections could be held by February, provided the government delivers a clear and timely announcement. We are ready. The only thing needed now is a formal declaration from the authorities,” Nazrul added.

The July Charter has become a key point of political consensus in recent months, as pressure mounts on major parties to commit to structural reforms, electoral fairness, and justice for political victims.
