Mirza Abbas, member of BNP’s standing committee, has said that there is a conspiracy underway to sabotage the upcoming election.
He made the remarks while addressing a rally held at Jatrabari area in Dhaka on Friday to commemorate the anniversary of the July-August mass uprising and to remember the martyrs.

Abbas stated that BNP is no longer afraid of attacks or cases. Before introducing the PR system (proportional representation) to the people, the authorities should first teach them how to vote. The people cannot be misled by talks of a new voting system. If there is a conspiracy regarding the election, the people will resist it.
He said the current situation of the country proves that restoring democracy is the biggest challenge now. Warning firmly, he said the country will not accept a “Talibani-style” election. People will not tolerate that. There is no use trying to mislead people against BNP.
We have been struggling for 17 years and are ready to continue the movement for another 17 years if necessary. Those who once could not even afford to eat have now become “crocodiles of money.” We want to question the government—where did they get so much money?

He also said that BNP cannot be suppressed by threats of movement or repression. They are ready to give their lives if needed. “We do not practice broker politics; we do the politics of the people.”

The rally was chaired by Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu and conducted by member secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin. Among others, BNP’s central trade secretary Salauddin Ahmed, former joint convener of Dhaka Metropolitan Nabi Ullah Nabi, joint convener Liton Mahmud, and BNP leader Ishraq Hossain were present on the occasion.
