Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul on Friday praised the recent deduction in US tariffs on Bangladeshi goods, calling it a notable achievement for the country’s interim government.

In a post on his verified Facebook account, Nazrul highlighted the significance of the United States lowering its tariff rate from 35 percent to 20 percent on goods imported from Bangladesh.

The decision followed high-level negotiations in Washington, DC, between Bangladeshi officials and representatives from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), the agency responsible for US trade policy.

According to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the revised rate places Bangladesh in line with other key garment-exporting nations, including Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Indonesia—all of which face similar tariff rates ranging from 19 to 20 percent.

Officials say the adjustment ensures that Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global apparel market remains intact, offering a level playing field in one of its most vital export sectors.
