July Charter: Protesters continue standoff at Shahbagh through the night

Protesters under the banner of ‘July Shahid Paribar O July Joddha’ have continued their sit-in demonstration at Shahbagh intersection, demanding constitutional recognition of the July Charter and a separate July Proclamation, UNB reports.
During a visit to the protest site at 1:30am, UNB observed demonstrators sitting and lying on the road, resolute in their stance. “We will not leave the streets until our demands are fulfilled,” said one protester.
The blockade has caused severe traffic congestion, bringing major inconvenience to commuters across Dhaka.
In response to public frustration, a protesting dentist who has remained at the site since morning said, “We will leave the street immediately if our demands are accepted.” He added that authorities had previously made three promises which were not kept. “We are truly sorry for the suffering caused by this blockade. It’s not our intention, but we are compelled to stay here,” he said.
Protesters also clarified that emergency services are not being hindered. “In fact, we are helping ambulances and emergency vehicles pass swiftly,” another demonstrator added.
