Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) has commenced its rally at Dhaka’s Central Shaheed Minar to mark one year of its single-point movement calling for the fall of Awami League government.
The rally also concludes the party’s month-long “July March” campaign across the country. The rally officially began at 5 PM on Sunday with the arrival of NCP’s Convenor Nahid Islam at the venue.
Several central NCP leaders were present at the event, including Member Secretary Akhter Hossain, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Senior Joint Convenors Samanta Sharmin and Ariful Islam Adib, Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zarah, Chief Organizer of Northern region Sarjis Alam, Southern Region Organizer Hasnat Abdullah and Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud, among others.
Ahead of the rally, a stage was set up at Central Shaheed Minar, where NCP leaders and activists began gathering in processions from various parts of the city.
Since morning, NCP workers from both Dhaka North and South city units arrived with banners, national and party flags and party headbands. They chanted slogans not only of the party but also those popularized during the recent July uprising.
To maintain order, law enforcement agencies tightened security around the rally venue. By 2 PM, police bomb disposal units and a dog squad were seen patrolling the area. NCP Convenor Nahid Islam and other senior central leaders are scheduled to address the gathering.
