Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed disappointment over the July Declaration announced by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus on the first anniversary of the ousting of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
On Tuesday, CA Yunus read out the July Declaration from the main stage at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building, formally recognising the July Mass Uprising and outlining its proposed constitutional acknowledgment.
In an immediate reaction following the announcement, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, criticised the declaration, saying, “I believe the aspirations of July are not meaningfully reflected in this declaration. It feels like an attempt to sidestep the real issues.”
He further questioned the implementation timeline, saying, “When will this be implemented? From tomorrow? That hasn’t been clarified. Moreover, we had demanded it be included in the preamble of the Constitution – but that did not happen.”
