Sumaiya Jafrin, wife of Major Sadik, has been taken into custody by Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) over allegations of involvement in a secret meeting with Awami League leaders and activists.

According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Sumaiya was brought to DB office on Minto Road on Wednesday evening.

The allegations stem from her alleged participation alongside her husband in a secret gathering at KB Convention Center near Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka.

The meeting reportedly involved retired government officials as well as Banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Awami League activists and took place on July 8 from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Following the incident, a case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act on July 13 with Bhatara Police Station, resulting in the arrest of 22 individuals who remain in custody.

On August 1, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that the accused army officer was detained from his residence in Uttara on July 17 and placed under military custody.

A military court has been formed to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.

Initial inquiries have found the allegations to be credible and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the officer in accordance with military law upon completion of the full investigation. Coordination with the police and other law enforcement agencies is ongoing in this regard.
