Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud has been elected Chairman of the Jatiya Party, with ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader appointed as Secretary General during the party’s 10th National Council held on Saturday at the Immanuel Community Center at Gulshan in Dhaka.
Nearly 3,000 delegates from across the country participated in the event, which also saw Kazi Firoz Rashid elected Senior Co-Chairman and Md. Mujibul Haque Chunnu named Executive Chairman.
The day began with the national and party anthems, followed by a flag-hoisting ceremony—Anisul Islam raised the national flag, while Chunnu hoisted the party flag.
Anisul presided over the inaugural session, with Anwar Hossain Manju, Chairman of Jatiya Party-JP, attending as chief guest. Speeches by senior leaders emphasized unity, democratic renewal, and organizational reform.
Solidarity messages were received from allied political figures and factions.
The election results were officially declared by the party’s Election Commission, led by Md. Zahidul Islam Zahid and members Mostafa Al Mahmud and Arifur Rahman Khan.
The new leadership marks a key step in the party’s restructuring ahead of national elections.
