Testimonies in three separate corruption cases involving ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and members of her family are scheduled to begin on Monday in Dhaka.
Alongside Hasina, 47 others stand accused in the cases, including her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul. The allegations, brought by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), center on the alleged abuse of power in allocating a total of 30 kathas of government land under the Purbachal New Town Project during her tenure.
The hearings will take place in the courtroom of Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun at Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-5. Summons have been issued for the three complainants—ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin and Assistant Directors Afnan Jannat Keya and SM Rashedul Hasan—to testify in their respective cases.
ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam confirmed that preparations for the proceedings have been completed.
One of the cases was filed on January 14 by Salahuddin against eight people, including Hasina, over the alleged unlawful allocation of a 10-katha plot. A charge sheet against 12 accused was submitted on March 10 by Investigation Officer Afnan Jannat Keya.
Another case, filed the same day by SM Rashedul Hasan, named 15 accused including Hasina and Sajeeb Wazed Joy. The charge sheet in this case, listing 17 people, was also submitted on March 10.
The third case was lodged on January 12 by Afnan Jannat Keya against 16 individuals, including Hasina and Saima Wazed Putul. Charges were later filed against 18 in connection with this case.
