Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque is facing grave allegations of involvement in the enforced disappearance and killing of retired army officer Zahidul Islam in 2016.
A formal complaint has been filed against him and several senior ex-police officials at the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
Jebunnahar Islam, wife of Zahidul Islam, submitted the complaint to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday.
The accused also include former Detective Branch chief Md Monirul Islam, ex-CTTC head Asaduzzaman, former Mirpur Deputy Commissioner Masud Ahmed, Rupnagar Police Station’s former Officer-in-Charge Shahid Alam, and unidentified Rupnagar police personnel.

According to Jebunnahar, on September 2, 2016, she and her two children were forcibly taken blindfolded from their home and detained at an unknown location. During interrogation, she was pressured to confess her husband’s alleged militant links but refused, later learning he had been killed shortly after their abduction.

She alleged that she and her daughters endured four months of incommunicado detention, torture, and separation, followed by staged “rescues” by law enforcement agencies.

After spending four years in jail, Jebunnahar was granted bail but was re-arrested in August 2022 before finally being released in August 2024. She is now demanding an impartial investigation and justice for her husband’s death.
