National election: BNP’s Nuruzzaman Liton leads in public support in Jashore-1 constituency

Nazrul Juel :-

Political heat is intensifying in Jashore-1 (Sharsha) constituency ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, with voters showing huge enthusiasm after 17 years in anticipation of regaining their voting rights.

With the upcoming parliamentary elections drawing closer, potential candidates in Jashore -1 seat have intensified their campaign activities in a bid to secure public support. Leaders from different political parties are reaching out to voters through rallies, meetings, and door-to-door visits.

Four BNP nomination aspirants and Jamaat-e-Islami’s lone candidate, Maulana Azizur Rahman, are actively campaigning in the constituency.

Nomination seekers have been holding rallies, processions, meetings at every union, municipality, and ward level, alongside campaigning through social media day and night.

Jashore -1 Sharsha upazila BNP organising secretary Ashraful Alam Babu said that that the electoral ground in Sharsha is still under BNP’s control. Among the multiple BNP aspirants, Sharsha upazila BNP general secretary and youngest popular leader, Alhaj Nuruzzaman Liton, has strong grassroots connections. During the previous Awami League government, Liton stood beside BNP leaders and activists who faced lawsuits and attacks, extending both financial and humanitarian assistance. Carrying 25 cases on his shoulders, Liton continues to lead daily party programmes with all levels of BNP activists, working tirelessly in different wards and unions to ensure BNP’s victory in the upcoming polls.

Although Jamaat-e-Islami is not seen holding public rallies, they are reportedly holding indoor meetings in various madrasas and strengthening organisational capacity by enrolling new members. Their leaders and activists are working collectively to secure Jamaat’s victory in this constituency.

Sharsha upazila Swechchhasebak Dal president Amirul Islam said that despite facing numerous cases and attacks during the last government, Liton never abandoned the party and always stood with leaders and activists. “This time, the demand of the people of Benapole and Sharsha is that Nuruzzaman Liton should be the BNP candidate,” he added.

Jashore-1 (Sharsha) constituency has 102 polling centres across 11 unions, with a total of 299,280 voters — 150,440 male and 148,883 female.

Sharsha upazila BNP president Abul Hasan Zahir is also a BNP nomination aspirant from the constituency. Known as a dedicated party leader, he too has been campaigning daily.

Other BNP nomination seekers include former office secretary Mofiqul Hasan Tripti and Sharsha upazila BNP adviser Alhaj Khairuzzaman Madhu, both of whom have been reaching out to leaders, activists, and general voters seeking the party’s ticket.

Jamaat’s lone candidate, central working council member Maulana Azizur Rahman, appears upbeat. He has been participating in various religious and social programmes with party leaders and activists, who are actively conducting door-to-door membership drives across the constituency.

Both BNP and Jamaat aspirants are keeping the electoral field heated with processions and rallies. Apart from these two parties, no other political party’s activity has been visible in the constituency so far.

BNP aspirants said they would follow whatever instructions their party chief gives. “The party will nominate whoever it deems fit, and we will all work together for that candidate. There is no internal feud in our ranks,” they said.
