Acting US Ambassador to Bangladesh Tracy Ann Jacobson held a key meeting with Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed at his residence in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon, underscoring bilateral interest in judicial cooperation and democratic governance.
The 20-minute discussion focused on strengthening the rule of law, enhancing judicial independence, and protecting human rights in Bangladesh. According to Supreme Court Special Officer Moazzem Hossain, the meeting was a scheduled courtesy visit.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Jacobson met with Professor Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, to discuss ongoing state reforms, preparations for the upcoming national election, and progress in political dialogue initiatives, including the development of a National Charter.
The talks also touched on efforts to foster inclusive political engagement and institutional reform during the current transitional period.
Monir Haidar, Special Assistant to the Commission’s Secretary, and Eric Gillan, Political Affairs Chief at the US Embassy in Dhaka, were present during the meeting with Professor Riaz.
The engagements reflect the US government’s continued interest in supporting democratic institutions and a peaceful, credible electoral process in Bangladesh.
