The Supreme Court administration has imposed a ban on carrying firearms, explosives, narcotics, and other illegal items on the premises of the apex court, the International Crimes Tribunal, as well as lower courts and tribunals across the country for security reasons.
According to the notification signed by SC Registrar General Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan on Thursday, the Supreme Court is the highest judicial body and is considered a key establishment.
Since the chief justice and the judges of both divisions of the apex court conduct judicial proceedings here, it is essential to ensure their security along with other lawyers.
It has been observed recently that some litigants and case-related individuals are carrying firearms, explosives, narcotics, and other illegal substances on the Supreme Court premises, creating security risks, disturbing the peaceful environment, and hindering the judicial proceedings, read the notification.
