Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has reminded Bangladeshi officials that they must not serve as followers of any political party, urging them instead to uphold professionalism and a spirit of public service.

He made the remarks on Sunday (August 17) while addressing an orientation and training program at the Ministry of Home Affairs for newly appointed first and second secretaries of the passport and visa wings at Bangladesh missions abroad.

The session was also attended by Senior Secretary of the ministry, Nasimul Ghani, as special guest.

“Expatriates are the driving force of Bangladesh’s economy. They keep the country’s economic foundation strong by sending remittances, and most of them are workers. Officials must therefore treat them with respect, maintain good relations, and ensure efficient service in passport and visa matters,” Jahangir Alam said.

He stressed the importance of maintaining harmony with other embassy and mission staff to create a healthy working environment. Calling on the officials to work with professionalism, dedication, and sincerity, the adviser said, “The standards of the civil service must be upheld.”

Jahangir Alam further warned officials against corruption or involvement in partisan politics. “Civil servants must not act as followers of any political party. They must also refrain from any activity that undermines the dignity of the country,” he added.
