Speaking to reporters after a Core Committee on Law and Order meeting at the Secretariat, the adviser said 15,851 new police officers have been recruited, noting that none came from the cadre service.
“These new personnel will start their duties ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections, strengthening security and operational readiness across the country,” he added.
Addressing concerns about mob justice, the adviser acknowledged that such incidents still occur, though the government is actively working to reduce them. “I won’t claim it has been completely eradicated. But efforts are ongoing to minimise these cases as much as possible,” he said.
Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Chowdhury also highlighted disciplinary measures within the police, confirming that 18 officers have been dismissed for prolonged absenteeism. “If an officer remains absent for 60 days or more without approved leave, dismissal is enforced. This policy will continue,” he said.
On justice and accountability, the adviser emphasised that the government seeks to uphold due process. “No innocent person should face punishment under any circumstances, while those found guilty will not be spared. Justice must prevail in all cases,” he affirmed.
