Storm alert issued for Dhaka, 8 other regions; winds may hit 60 km/h

Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a storm warning for nine regions, including Dhaka, forecasting gusty winds and thunderstorms with wind speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour overnight.

According to meteorologist Shahana Sultana, the warning was issued in a special forecast for inland river ports, valid until 1:00 AM on Wednesday.

The forecast indicates that temporary gusts or squalls may blow through Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar at speeds ranging from 45 to 60 km/h, coming from the south or southeast.

These conditions may be accompanied by rain or thunderstorms. River ports in these areas have been advised to display cautionary signal number one.
In its morning bulletin, the weather office also predicted scattered rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds, in many parts of Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
Some areas in Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions may also experience light to moderate rainfall. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of the country.
Additionally, daytime temperatures may drop slightly across Bangladesh, while night-time temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
