Speaking at a gathering with expatriate remittance workers in Malaysia on Saturday, Nahid emphasized that elections alone merely shift political power, whereas structural change comes through popular uprisings. His remarks were later shared on the NCP’s official Facebook page on Sunday.

“Elections only bring about a change in leadership. But people’s uprisings lead to structural transformation. Without such reforms, we will not accept this election,” Nahid said.

He described the current movement as distinct from previous mass uprisings in the country, highlighting the emergence of a new political force—driven by youth.

“Over the past year, the country has made progress toward reform, though there have been setbacks. The country now stands at a critical juncture. Will we see meaningful reforms, or will we move forward with elections without change? We’ve made our position clear—we demand a new constitution and institutional reforms,” he added.

Nahid’s three-day Malaysia tour was organized by the NCP Diaspora Alliance – Malaysia Chapter. He is expected to return to Bangladesh tonight and will leave for China on Tuesday, accompanied by seven party leaders.
