Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has said it has arrested a “senior Bangladeshi police officer” from the border areas of Chabbis Pargana district in West Bengal state.
The BSF personnel learnt of the detainee’s rank from his identification card, they said without elaborating.
The officer was detained on Saturday evening when attempting to illegally cross into India through an unfenced part of the border under BSF’s Hakimpur outpost, the Indian security personnel added.
Later, he was handed over to the West Bengal police, who are interrogating him to learn of the motive behind his “illegal entry,” they said.
