A Dhaka court on Monday placed content creator Tawhid Afridi on a five-day remand in a murder case filed over the killing of Asadul Haque Babu during the anti-discrimination movement.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Hoque passed the order after a hearing, granting partial approval to CID’s request for seven days’ remand.
Afridi was brought to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court around 2:25 PM and kept in the lockup before the hearing. During arguments, the prosecution sought the maximum remand, while defence lawyers sought bail and cancellation of remand.
CID arrested Afridi on Sunday night in Barishal. His father Nasir Uddin was arrested in Gulshan on August 17. Nasir is already on a five-day remand in the same case.
According to the case, Babu, a participant in the anti-discrimination protests, was shot on August 5 last year in Dhaka’s Jatrabari. He was rushed to hospital but declared dead. His father later filed a murder case with Jatrabari Police Station, naming 25 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with Nasir and Tawhid listed as accused.
