Salman F Rahman, former Private Industry and Investment Adviser to the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been shown arrested in four corruption cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On Thursday (28 August), he was produced before the court of Metropolitan Senior Special Judge (acting) Ibrahim Mia in Dhaka, after being brought from prison. The ACC requested that he be shown arrested in the cases, which the court granted, before ordering his return to jail.
The cases accuse Rahman of securing massive loans through irregularities and misusing the banking system. Allegations include obtaining Tk 496 crore in loans under fake companies, misappropriating Tk 34 crore, laundering Tk 76.39 crore, securing Tk 618 crore under another fictitious entity, and embezzling Tk 146.82 crore in loans along with laundering Tk 113.41 crore.
The ACC lodged the cases earlier this year.
Rahman was initially arrested on 13 August last year at Dhaka’s Sadarghat while allegedly attempting to flee the country by river. Former law minister Anisul Huq was detained with him. Since then, Rahman has been implicated in multiple cases related to corruption and political unrest.
