The student organization expressed strong condemnation over recent remarks by the NCP leaders in support of the Engineering Rights Movement, which advocates for BSc engineers’ recruitment into government engineering posts.
In a press release signed by Office Secretary Sabbir Ahmed on Thursday afternoon, the movement labeled the statements by Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah as “irresponsible and factually incorrect.”
The group took particular exception to Sarjis Alam referring to the Deputy Assistant Engineer (Grade 10) position as a “quota” issue. It also criticized Hasnat Abdullah for describing the demands of the Engineering Rights Movement as “justified,” calling such views misleading and damaging to diploma engineers’ legitimate rights.
“This is not a quota matter,” the statement clarified. “The Deputy Assistant Engineer Grade 10 post is a specialized role, legally reserved for Diploma in Engineering holders, as established by the Presidential Ordinance of 1978 and the Prime Minister’s Notification of 1994. Eligibility is based solely on academic qualification.”
The Technical Students’ Movement warned that if Hasnat and Sarjis fail to retract their statements and issue a public apology within the stipulated time, all government and private polytechnic students, TSC members, diploma engineers, and their families will sever ties with the NCP.
“We stand united,” the release declared. “No recognition, no cooperation—with the NCP or any organization that undermines the rights of technical education graduates.”
