Bangladesh roared back to winning ways in the Men’s Asia Cup Hockey 2025 with a commanding 8–3 victory over Chinese Taipei in their second Group B fixture on Saturday in Rajgir, India.
After a disappointing 1–4 defeat to Malaysia in their opening match, Moshiur Rahman Biplob’s men responded in style, producing a dominant display led by doubles from Mohammad Abdullah, Ashraful Islam, and Rakibul Islam.
Bangladesh made the perfect start when Abdullah struck in the 4th minute to give his side the lead. However, Chinese Taipei stunned the Red and Greens with two quick goals in the 10th and 18th minutes through Tsung-Yu Hsieh, who scored first from open play and then from a penalty corner.
The reply came in the 26th minute, Abdullah once again netting from open play to level the contest at 2–2.
From the third quarter onwards, Bangladesh were irresistible. Sohanhur Rahman Sabuj restored the lead with a penalty corner strike in the 36th minute, before Rakibul Hasan struck twice in quick succession in the 42nd minute to make it 5–2.
Ashraful Islam then took charge, converting a penalty corner in the 45th minute and adding another in the 58th to complete his brace. In between, captain Rezaul Islam Babu found the net from a penalty corner in the 56th minute, further extending the advantage.
Chinese Taipei managed a late consolation in the final minute, but by then the damage was long done, and Bangladesh had secured a resounding 8–3 triumph — their first win of the campaign.
The victory puts Bangladesh back in contention in Group B ahead of their final group-stage encounter against defending champions South Korea, scheduled for 1 September. The top two sides from the group will confirm their place in the Super 4s.
