In a violent clash over dominance, supporters of local BNP leaders Hassan Zahir and Tritpi group attacked 15 BNP activists with sharp weapons and beat them up, leaving one in critical condition. The attack took place on Sunday (August 31) night at the Navaron-Satkira intersection in Sharsha upazila of Jashore.
According to local sources, the attack stemmed from a trivial incident and the power struggle within the area. Around 25-30 supporters, led by local BNP leaders Abul Hassan Zahir, former office secretary Mofiqul Hasan Tritpi, and activists Jonny and Zia, armed with makeshift weapons, and iron pipes, ambushed BNP worker Abdur Razzak around 9:00 PM at the intersection. They severely beat and hacked him. When other BNP workers, including Ruhul Amin, tried to intervene and save Razzak, they too were attacked and injured.
Local residents rushed to rescue the victims and took them to the Navaron Upazila Health Complex. Among the injured, Abdur Razzak, Ruhul Amin, Titu, and Nazmul were admitted to Jashore General Hospital, while the rest received treatment at the health complex or locally. Razzak’s condition remains critical.
All the injured BNP activists were the Supporter of Nuruzaman Liton, Geberal Secretary, Sharsha upazila BNP Unite.
Nuruzzaman Liton, the General Secretary of Sharsha BNP, condemned the assault, stating, “Without any reason, my supporters, including Razzak, were brutally attacked and injured by the supporters of Hassan and Tritpi.” He called on district BNP leaders to take organizational action against the attackers. The police are preparing to file a case in connection with the incident.
