Sazzad-Ikra Parishad, has unveiled its 8-point manifesto ahead of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election.
The declaration took place on Saturday at the base of university’s ‘Adommo-24’ monument, built to commemorate the July uprising.
Centered on the slogan “Committed to Change, Not Just Promises,” the manifesto outlines a vision for an education-oriented, inclusive and safe campus.
In its manifesto, the panel has placed strong emphasis on improving the standard of education and research at Jahangirnagar University. It proposes operating all academic activities under a structured academic calendar to ensure timely classes, examinations and publication of results.
This calendar, they argue, must also include regular JUCSU elections. The panel aims to revise existing course curricula to meet international standards and introduce a foundational English course for first-year students. Plans are in place to establish a high-quality language learning institute and launch an online learning platform that would allow students to access recorded lectures easily.
Other academic reforms include enabling credit transfers, revitalizing the university’s International Office, enhancing the teaching-learning process, ensuring internship opportunities through partnerships with public and private institutions and creating on-campus part-time job options. The manifesto also calls for merit-based faculty recruitment and performance evaluations for teachers.
One of the panel’s core commitments is to create a safer and more inclusive campus environment for female students.
Reiterating that Jahangirnagar University has never compromised on issues such as sexual harassment, protest rights and women’s safety, the panel pledges to further strengthen the security infrastructure of female dormitories.
This includes repairing approach roads, building boundary walls, installing iron grills in open corridors, and expanding CCTV surveillance.
They also propose establishing a childcare center to support student mothers, where female students seeking part-time employment could work following short-term training.
The university’s sexual harassment complaint cell would be reformed and made more effective and an anti-harassment unit would be proposed to address online abuse, with a zero-tolerance policy toward such behavior.
In terms of healthcare, the panel has outlined plans to modernize the university’s medical center by improving its infrastructure, ensuring the presence of doctors and nurses round-the-clock and providing ambulance and pharmacy services.
They have pledged to make essential emergency medications available for free. Discussions with the administration will also be initiated to transform the medical center into a fully equipped 20-bed hospital.
Vice President candidate Md. Sheikh Sadi Hasan stated that the panel has long stood against abduction, extrajudicial killings and political repression in their broader fight against fascism.
Now, their goal is to create a student-friendly, safe and modern Jahangirnagar University and ensure regular JUCSU elections.
He added that the student wing had already facilitated free Hepatitis B vaccinations for nearly 5,000 students and intends to pursue the establishment of a 20-bed medical center as part of their long-term plan.
