Despite completing their tour of Nepal, Bangladesh national football team, led by captain Jamal Bhuiyan, remains stranded in Kathmandu as all flights from Tribhuvan International Airport have been suspended due to ongoing unrest.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) confirmed that the team, along with coaching staff, is currently confined to their hotel amid safety concerns.

The team was scheduled to return home on Tuesday at 3:00 PM local time via Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 0372; a day earlier than originally planned.

However, deteriorating security conditions in Nepal have forced authorities to cancel all outbound flights, postponing the team’s return.

In a statement, BFF assured that efforts are underway to ensure the team’s safe return.
The federation is in constant communication with both Nepalese Football Association and Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh High Commission in Nepal has advised all Bangladeshi nationals in the country to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
The situation in Nepal escalated sharply after protests led by country’s Gen-Z youth erupted on Monday.

Demonstrators, protesting against corruption, money laundering, abuse of power and the government’s decision to block social media platforms, clashed with security forces after entering the premises of the Nepalese Parliament.
The violence resulted in at least 19 deaths and over a hundred injuries due to police gunfire.
