Jamaat Ameer hopes DUCSU winners will rise above party politics

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has expressed hope that newly elected representatives of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) will serve the student community by rising above their political affiliations.

In a statement issued by Jamaat’s publicity wing on Wednesday, Shafiqur Rahman congratulated all the winners of DUCSU election held on September 9, calling it a peaceful and festive event.

“The students of the country’s premier university took part in the election in a joyful and peaceful environment. The presence of competitive candidates made the election vibrant,” he said.

Congratulating all elected representatives, the Jamaat chief added, “I hope they will rise above party identity and act as true representatives of the student body.”

He also extended his gratitude to the interim government, university authorities, law enforcement agencies, journalists and everyone involved in ensuring a fair, peaceful and credible election process.

In his statement, Shafiqur Rahman also expressed deep sorrow over the death of journalist Tarikul Islam Shibli, who passed away while on duty during the election and prayed for the forgiveness of his soul and conveyed sympathy to his family.
