The Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed Integrated Students Alliance has called for “unity and coexistence” after the Chhatra Dal-supported panel boycotted the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election on Thursday, alleging widespread irregularities.
Alliance GS candidate Mazharul Islam told reporters at Maulana Bhashani Hall that his panel wanted to “bridge the gaps” and move forward together with Chhatra Dal despite the boycott. He claimed students were still voting spontaneously in long queues and that the administration’s “technical mistakes” had not derailed the polls.
Since morning, allegations of irregularities and chaos surfaced in several halls, forcing temporary suspension of voting at Shaheed Tajuddin and Fazilatunnesa Halls. Earlier, alliance VP candidate Arifullah Adib accused the administration of mismanagement and allowing former Chhatra Dal activists to influence voters.
Around 3:30 PM, Chhatra Dal GS candidate Baishakhi announced the boycott at a press conference, calling the election “rigged and farcical.” She alleged ballot stuffing, lack of voter photos, and attacks on independent candidates.
Meanwhile, the Sampritir Oikya panel, partly backed by the Students’ Union, also rejected the polls, accusing the Election Commission of bias and irregularities.
