On Friday afternoon (September 12), Professor Dr. Sultana Akter of JU and returning officer at Nawab Faizunnesa Hall declared her decision at a press conference in front of JUCSU Election Commission office. She warned that with the current system, “the counting will not be finished even in three days.”
Dr. Akter also blamed the university administration for the recent death of her colleague, Fine Arts lecturer Jannatul Ferdous, claiming the excessive workload of the election process contributed to the tragedy.
“If vote counting had been done digitally, perhaps we would not have lost our colleague. For three days we have been working beyond human limits. Do we not have families? Are we not physically and mentally exhausted?” she said.
She added that many fellow teachers, who are serving as returning and polling officers, have been deeply shaken by Ferdous’s death and are struggling to continue their duties. “We are teachers. We cannot accept this anymore,” she said.
Meanwhile, the vote counting for both JUCSU and hall union elections continued on Friday afternoon at the university’s Senate Building after Jummah prayers. According to the latest update, results from 19 of 21 hall centers have been completed, with three still pending.
Dr. Lutful Elahi, a member of the JUCSU Election Commission, said, “We are working at full pace, with only three hall centers left. Once those are done, we will begin counting the central union votes. We have already increased the number of counting tables.
