BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that people want to see Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) as an ideological and visionary political force, not one bound by outdated methods.

Emphasizing the need for a political shift in mindset and approach, he called for democratic participation not only in politics and the economy but also in the country’s sports sector.

Speaking on Saturday at Zia Swimming Mini Carnival organized by Dhaka North unit BNP, Khosru stressed the need for political evolution.

“Politics today requires vision and foresight. The old formulas will not work anymore. We must engage people with new ideas and inspire the younger generation,” he said.

He also pointed out that a significant change is taking place in collective consciousness of people and politicians must be able to grasp and reflect that change.

“If we fail to adapt, politics of future will leave us behind,” he added. Khosru called for the democratization of sports, noting that while much is said about democratizing politics, little attention is given to making sports accessible to all.

“Every citizen should have the opportunity to participate in sports. That’s why we must democratize it as well,” he said.

Linking this initiative to BNP’s broader vision, he said, “In new Bangladesh that we aim to build, politics will be democratized, economy will be democratized; meaning everyone will have a stake in it, and sports too must be democratized so that every person can take part.”

He highlighted Tarique Rahman’s strong interest in sports, saying, “Everyone knows about the interest Tarique Rahman and his family have in sports. What we are doing now; swimming, cricket and football tournaments, is just the beginning.”

According to him, Tarique Rahman has already decided to establish sports centers across all regions of the country, where citizens will be given opportunities to participate in cricket, football, swimming and other disciplines based on their skills and interests.

“These centers will nurture talent and help people pursue their passions,” he added.

Stressing the importance of sports in shaping a nation’s image, Khosru said, “Many countries have built global recognition through sports. It enhances a nation’s soft power; the ability to influence others through culture and values rather than military strength. Through sports, we too can uplift our image on the world stage.”

He expressed hope that under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, BNP would dream big for the future of Bangladeshi sports.
“We will have the opportunity to enhance Bangladesh’s global image through sports; Insha’Allah. But it will require everyone’s cooperation,” he concluded. The event was presided over by BNP Sports Secretary and Dhaka North unit BNP Convenor Aminul Haque, while the program was conducted by Member Secretary Mostafa Zaman.
