Police on Sunday arrested Kazi Mamunur Rashid, secretary general of Raushan Ershad-led faction of the Jatiya Party.
He was detained at night in front of Westin Hotel in the capital by Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The arrest was confirmed on Monday morning by DB Joint Commissioner (Administration) Mohammad Nasirul Islam, who said that legal action is being taken against the arrested individual. He added that Rashid will be taken to court from the DB office.
Previously, on November 4, Rashid was arrested in a rape case and sent to jail. He was later released on bail by the court. He also faces multiple cases related to killings during the July movement.
