The Election Commission (EC) has announced that two political parties, including the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), have fulfilled the conditions required for registration as political parties.
Senior Secretary to the EC, Akhtar Ahmed, told reporters on Tuesday that a public notice will be issued regarding the two qualified parties — the NCP and Bangladesh Jatiya League.
Among 143 applications submitted for registration, 22 were investigated at the field level, with only these two meeting the eligibility criteria so far.
“The NCP will be given an official letter regarding its electoral symbol, but the registration notification will be published later,” Ahmed said.
He added that three political parties remain under EC observation: Bangladesh Am Janagan Party, Jatiya Janata Party, and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Shahjahan Siraj).
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party is set to gain registration following a court ruling in its favor.
The EC will conduct further scrutiny of nine other parties, including Amjanatar Dal, Bangladesh Ganatantrik Party (BGP), Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist), Bangladesh Justice and Development Party, Bhasani Jonoshokti Party, Bangladesh Bekar Mukti Parishad, Jonotar Dal, Moulik Bangla, and Jonota Party Bangladesh.
Out of the 22 parties probed, seven have already been rejected. These are: Forward Party, Bangladesh Sangskarabadi Party (BRP), Bangladesh Communist Party (Marxist-CPB M), Jamiat Ulamaye Islam & Nezame Islam Party, Bangladesh Bekar Samaj (BABES), Bangladesh Solution Party, and Notun Bangladesh Party.
