Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus has extended warm greetings to Buddhists in Bangladesh and around the world on the occasion of Shubho Probarona Purnima and Kathin Chibar Dana, two of the most significant festivals in Buddhist calendar.
In his message, Prof Yunus said Gautama Buddha devoted his life to spreading the message of non-violence, equality, and friendship for the welfare of humanity and the establishment of peace in society.
“The principal aim of Buddha was to build an ideal society based on peace and harmony. His ideals still shine brightly with the glory of humanity and sacrifice,” he said.
The Chief Adviser added that the Buddha’s timeless teachings of compassion and non-violence continue to inspire millions worldwide and can play an important role in addressing today’s global instability and promoting lasting peace.
Highlighting the historical connection between Buddhism and Bangladesh, Prof Yunus said the land once flourished as a center of Buddhist civilization, with ancient monasteries standing as enduring testimony to its rich heritage.
He also underlined Bangladesh’s longstanding tradition of communal harmony, where people of all faiths, castes, and communities have lived together peacefully for centuries.
“As a nation, everyone has contributed to our achievements, regardless of race, religion, or caste,” he noted, expressing hope that harmony and tolerance would grow stronger in the new Bangladesh after the July Uprising.
Prof Yunus concluded by wishing the Buddhist community success and happiness on the auspicious occasion of Kathin Chibar Dana and Probarona Purnima.
