The Election Commission (EC) is set to hold a dialogue with leading media professionals on Monday (6 Oct) as part of its ongoing consultations ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
According to the EC Secretariat, the discussions will take place at the EC conference hall in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The session with electronic media representatives will be held from 10:30am to 12:30pm, while print media journalists will join from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
The dialogue will be chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, with the participation of the four election commissioners, the senior secretary of the EC Secretariat, and other high-ranking officials.
EC officials said the meeting aims to gather opinions and recommendations from journalists to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and festive election. This initiative is part of a broader series of consultations the EC has been holding with key stakeholders, including political parties, academics, civil society representatives, freedom fighters, election experts, and women leaders.
Md Ashadul Haque, assistant director (Public Relations) and alternate information officer at the EC Secretariat, said that more than 40 media professionals are expected to participate in Monday’s dialogue.
The EC began its stakeholder consultation process on 28 September, starting with members of civil society and academia.
Participants in that session emphasised the need to ensure safety for all involved in the election and called for free access for the media throughout the electoral process.
They stressed that a free and responsible press is essential for a healthy democracy, noting that journalists must be able to report without obstruction—from election preparation to vote casting and result announcements—to prevent misinformation and ensure transparency.
