Adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and the Ministry of Industries, Adilur Rahman Khan, has said that planned urbanization is not merely about structural development.
Speaking at a discussion marking World Habitat Day, held at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka on Monday, he said,“If we make temporary plans, they won’t serve much purpose. We must work according to a comprehensive plan—only then can we address the challenges of our cities,” he said.

Adilur emphasized that several key areas require special attention to build well-planned cities. “Urban expansion is happening in an unplanned manner—this needs to follow a proper plan. We must work toward sustainable growth in public transportation to reduce traffic congestion and make commuting easier for citizens. Rivers, canals, and water bodies must be preserved to prevent waterlogging.

We should focus on inclusive urbanization and make extensive use of technology and digital tools in civic services,” he added.

Presided over by Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Nazrul Islam, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, Riazul Islam, Chairman of RAJUK, Ferdousi Begum, Chairman of the Directorate of Housing, and Wahiduzzaman, President of REHAB, among others, were present on the occasion.
