Benapole Thana Press Club journalists protest killing of Bagerhat reporter

Journalists in Benapole formed a human chain on Saturday (October 11) demanding justice for the brutal murder of journalist A.S.M. Hayat Uddin, who was working for the Daily Bhorer Chetana in Bagerhat.

The protest was organized by the Benapole Thana Press Club in Benapole Bazar in the afternoon. Journalists from electronic, print, and online media outlets participated in the demonstration.

Presided over by Md. Alomgir Hossain, president of Benapole Thana Press Club, the event was addressed by the club’s senior vice-president Jamal Uddin, vice-president Jasim Uddin, general secretary Zillur Rahman (Dablu), joint general secretary Al Amin Parvez, office secretary Mehedi Abarodh Shawon, publicity and publication secretary Abu Musa, and executive member Rohad Hossain, among others.

Speakers condemned the killing, calling it a grave attack on press freedom and the rule of law in the country. They demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for the murder.

They warned that if justice is delayed, journalists across Bangladesh would launch a united movement. During the protest, participants also expressed solidarity with the victim’s family and vowed to stand beside them in this difficult time.
