Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has arrived in Rome, Italy, to attend the annual World Food Forum organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
He landed in Rome at around 5:00 PM local time on Sunday (October 12), according to the Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Italy A.T.M. Rokebul Haque received Dr. Yunus at Rome’s Fiumicino International Airport. Earlier in the day, at around 11:30 AM, the Chief Adviser departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.
As per his itinerary, Dr. Yunus will deliver a keynote address at the main session of the forum as an invited guest speaker. He is also scheduled to hold meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and heads of several international organizations to discuss issues including global food security, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development.
The World Food Forum, hosted annually by the FAO Headquarters in Rome, serves as a global platform that brings together policymakers, researchers, and innovators to exchange ideas on shaping the future of food systems.
This year’s event runs from October 10 to 17.
Officials view Dr. Yunus’s visit as a reflection of Bangladesh’s proactive diplomatic engagement on the global stage.
The Chief Adviser is scheduled to return home on October 15.
