BGB seizes smuggled goods worth over Tk 171cr in Sept

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth Tk 171 crore 60 lakh during nationwide operations in September 2025, including along the country’s borders.

According to a BGB press release, seized items included 6.356 kg of gold, 1.65 kg of silver, 9,248 sarees, 13,558 three-pieces and fabrics, 11,461 ready-made garments, 391,793 cosmetic items, 13.6 lakh fireworks, 4,202 cubic feet of wood, 2,035 kg of tea leaves, 11,377 kg of betel nuts, 81,780 kg of coal, 4,630 cubic feet of sand, 6,349 kg of fishing nets, 35,062 pairs of spectacles, 17,269 vehicle parts, 32,778 kg of cumin, 17,641 kg of sugar, 9,451 kg of onions, and 13,276 kg of fertilizer.

The seized contraband also included 1,525 cattle and buffaloes, 19 trucks, 12 pickups, 4 private cars and microbuses, 130 boats, 36 CNG-run vehicles, 66 motorcycles, and 67 bicycles or vans.

BGB also confiscated firearms and ammunition — including two pistols, two magazines, 100 rounds of bullets, and three other weapons.

During the same period, a large quantity of narcotics was recovered: 2,087,143 yaba tablets, 4.663 kg of heroin, 4,491 bottles of Phensedyl, 12,113 bottles of foreign liquor, 384 liters of local alcohol, 1,298 kg of marijuana, 1,108 cans of beer, 224,811 packets of cigarettes, and various other narcotic tablets and syrups.

In the anti-smuggling drives, 198 smugglers were arrested for drug trafficking and illegal trade, while 1,197 Bangladeshi nationals and 9 Indian citizens were detained for illegal border crossing. Additionally, 805 Myanmar nationals were pushed back while attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally.
