Alhaj Nuruzzaman Liton, general secretary of Sharsha upazila BNP, visited the ailing former councillor and veteran BNP leader Alhaj Abdul Jabbar at his residence in Benapole on Tuesday afternoon.
Abdul Jabbar, a three-time councillor of Benapole Municipality’s Ward No. 9, was elected with the BNP symbol even during the Awami League’s tenure. He is currently undergoing treatment at his home due to illness.
During the visit, Nuruzzaman Liton inquired about Jabbar’s health condition and prayed for his speedy recovery.
“Dedicated party workers are the backbone of our movement,” Liton said. “Leaders like Abdul Jabbar are the lifeblood of the BNP. We all wish him a quick recovery.”
Among others present were Benapole municipal BNP general secretary Abu Taher Bharat, organising secretary Akhtaruzzaman, vice-president Atikuzzaman Soni, Ward No. 1 BNP general secretary Abdus Sattar, organising secretary Rafiqul Islam, Ward No. 7 BNP general secretary Musa Karim, Ward No. 9 BNP president Idris Ali Idu and general secretary Atiar Rahman, Sharsha upazila Jubo Dal convener Mostafizur Joha Selim, Benapole municipal Jubo Dal convener Mofizur Rahman Babu, Benapole municipal Krishak Dal acting president Hasan Imam and general secretary Jamal Uddin, Sharsha upazila Chhatra Dal convener Shariful Islam Chayon, and Benapole municipal Chhatra Dal convener Ariful Islam Arif, along with many leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies.
According to party sources, the veteran leader has long been suffering from heart disease and diabetes. Although he has been on rest as per doctors’ advice, his condition has recently deteriorated.
Local BNP activists said Abdul Jabbar was a true leader of the people who carried the BNP flag even in difficult times. His courage and dedication to the party remain a source of inspiration for the younger generation.
News of his illness has caused deep concern among BNP members across Benapole and Sharsha. Many have set aside political differences to pray for his swift recovery.
