On the election system, Fakhrul criticized some parties’ proportional representation (PR) demands. He asked the audience, “Do you understand PR voting? We have educated mothers and sisters here—do you know how PR works?”
Explaining, he said, “PR means voting for a party rather than an individual candidate. But people often cannot identify their candidate, who will work for them, or who will be their MP. These are important points voters must understand.”
He added, “Matters like PR can be debated in Parliament. We have proposed discussing it in the next Parliament. If the people want PR, we will implement it. But for now, some are only holding marches demanding PR every day without listening to reason.”
Fakhrul also appealed to all parties and institutions to pause demands so the election can proceed without disruption. “Some groups are trying to delay the election for ulterior motives. I urge them to let the election happen quickly so people can overcome unrest,” he said.
When he asked the audience if they wanted to vote, everyone raised their hands in support. Fakhrul said, “Everyone wants to vote and wants the election. Please put aside demands and complete the election. Representatives of the people should come first; debates can happen later.”
Addressing his limitations, he said, “When I visit Thakurgaon, people expect me to solve everything. I am not yet in government, nor an MP. The government and elected MPs must handle these responsibilities. If a BNP government is in place, you know it and can rely on it, so please make the right decisions.”
Speaking to the Hindu community, he asked about Durga Puja celebrations. When they replied positively, he joked, “You celebrated well, but you didn’t invite me.”
He concluded, “Mothers, sisters, brothers—Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians—our common goal is to build a loving and peaceful Bangladesh. No one should die of hunger, not even a single child. That is our wish.”
Also present were Thakurgaon district BNP General Secretary Paigam Ali, Upazila BNP General Secretary Abdul Hamid, former Goreya Union Parishad Chairman Rezwanul Haque, Rokonuddin Bhuiya, Foratun Nahar Paris, and Pushpashila, head of the Goreya ISKCON temple.
