ICC fines India women’s team for slow over-rate

India women’s national cricket team has been fined 5 percent of their match fee for a slow over-rate.Harmanpreet Kaur’s team is facing a fine for taking longer than the allotted time in their match against Australia in the Women’s ODI World Cup.

Last Sunday’s match against the Australian side, India faced a historical defeat; the Australian women’s team achieved the highest ever run chase of 331 runs in women’s ODI with six balls remaining.

India bowled one over short of the allotted time in that match. On-field umpires Sue Redfern and Nimali Perera, third umpire Kim Cotton and fourth umpire Jacqueline Williams raised complaints.

As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5 percent of their match fee for each over they fail to bowl within the allotted time.

India’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, admitted her guilt and accepted the punishment. Consequently, ICC Elite Panel referee Mitchell Pereira imposed the penalty without a formal hearing.
