“People want elections, they want to vote and choose their representatives. The people will not compromise on the issue of elections. Let’s set aside PR and hold elections together. Whoever wins will form the government, and the others will cooperate,” he said.
He further said, “The people are the owners of this country—they will decide whether there will be PR or not.”
The BNP leader also said that if his party comes to power, it will fully implement its 31-point reform plan and nationalize the entire education system.
Referring to the ongoing protests in Dhaka, Fakhrul said, “There’s no point in creating unrest for this weak government through continuous movements. They are doing this only to prevent the elections from taking place.”
The meeting was presided over by Begunbari Union BNP President Abul Kashem Azad, while district BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poigam Ali, former Vice-President Obaidullah Masud, Sadar Upazila President Abdul Hamid, and General Secretary Mahbub Hossain Tuhin, among others, were present.
