Akramuzzaman and SM Farhad have been re-elected as president and general secretary, respectively, of the Jashore Journalists’ Union (JJU). Both had previously held the same positions after winning the last election.
The voting took place peacefully on Sunday (October 19) with an enthusiastic turnout of members.
In the presidential race, Akramuzzaman secured 41 votes, defeating his lone rival M Ayub, who polled 24 votes.
For the vice-president post, BM Asad won with 42 votes against Kazi Rokibul Islam’s 23.
General Secretary SM Farhad achieved a landslide victory, bagging 52 votes, while his opponent Murshedul Azim Hiru received 13.
In the joint secretary race, M A R Moshiur earned 36 votes to beat Galib Hasan Pintu, who got 29.
Kazi Rafiqul Islam won the office secretary position with 38 votes, defeating Sheikh Jalal Uddin, who obtained 27.
For treasurer, Mir Kamruzzaman Moni received 34 votes, while his rival Tarikul Islam Tarek got 30.
Wahiduzzaman Milon was elected sports and cultural secretary with 33 votes, defeating Mahbubur Rahman Mohon, who received 30.
In the executive member race, Hanif Dakuya won with 44 votes against M A Rahman’s 20.
The vote counting was supervised by election commissioner Saiful Islam Sajal, with members Abdullah Hossain and Ashraful Azad also present.
Officials said the election was held in a fair and peaceful manner, with members participating enthusiastically throughout the process.
