BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the government to act as a neutral caretaker government from now on to ensure the 13th parliamentary election in February 2026 is fair, credible, and acceptable to all.

He said, “To make the upcoming election meaningful, impartial, and widely accepted, the interim government must adopt the model of a caretaker administration. They must assume the role of a caretaker government from this moment.”

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks while speaking at a press briefing after a meeting with chief adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus at the state guesthouse Jamuna on Tuesday.

He said, “Before the election, the administration must be neutral, and the public must be assured of this. We have demanded that officials loyal to the previous government, including those in the secretariat, be removed.”

Mirza Fakhrul also urged action regarding the judiciary, saying, “We have requested the removal of autocratic loyalists within the judiciary. Although the judiciary is independent, Dr Yunus, as chief adviser, should take initiative on this matter.”

On police appointments, he said, “The interim government must remain neutral, particularly in promotions and new recruitments.”

The BNP delegation, led by Mirza Fakhrul  Islam Alamgir, met the chief adviser at Jamuna around 6:00pm. Standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed were also part of the delegation.
